Ayurvedic Cooking Course India
“Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food” – Hippocrates
At the Vedaguru Centre you will learn how to prepare ayurvedic meals in harmony with the individual constitution (vata, pitha, kapha); the properties of various spices and how to use them in your cooking.
As early as 1500 BC the great Indian physician Charaka strongly emphasized the importance of proper diet and food: “The body is the product of the food”, he stated and added, “The diseases occur when the power is wrong”.
The distinction between health and disease is the same that exists between a balanced and unbalanced diet. However, the great physician of ancient India also emphasized the importance of mental state and lifestyle on the occurrence of disease as opposed to wellbeing.
The act of eating, for example, if done mechanically, is nothing more than one of the many actions that we perform for our survival; but, carried out with the consciousness of our being introduced to parts of the universe that will transform to become parts of us, the whole acquires a dimension physically very different. The plane of consciousness changes – nothing is trivial anymore, everything takes on a cosmic sense.
The principles of Ayurvedic cooking are based on knowledge dating back at least 5000 years, which harmoniously integrates health, nutrition, wellness and balance between mind, body and spirit. A balanced diet in the Ayurvedic tradition is not expressed in terms of fats, carbohydrates, proteins, calories, vitamins or minerals; rather the body tissues, water levels and saline, gunas or properties of foods, dosha or vital energy, rasas or tastes, quality of food and sadhana or assimilation by the body.
There are six basic tastes: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent. To maintain a perfect balance we should have all six tastes in the same meal.
Ayurveda therapy focuses on eradicating disease from its roots. For this we do away with the basic cause of the disease, and no new ailment should emerge as a consequence. Ayurveda is an Alternative and Holistic therapeutic ancient science which works by providing an individual absolute oneness with nature.
Ayurveda is the wise insight of living life naturally – simply inculcating the ayurveda diet and lifestyle modifications is easy and a sure way to gain mental balance and a life full of health, vigor and vitality.
“Food should be eaten as a medicine” Arunika Upanishad
“From food, verity, all creatures are produced. By food they live into it also they finally enter. Therefore food is called a medicine.” Taitreya Upanishad
Food is anything that sustains life. The use of food as a preventative to disease and an essential part of medicine has been exercised for over 4000 years by physicians of natural medicine. Food is a major determinant of health that is directly under our control.
However, most people do not realize the power of foods. We hope that you will pay attention to the principles of food maiden and incorporate this natural and powerful healing component into daily living. Everything we eat affects us.
