South India Tour

From Kerala (with departure from the Ayurvedic Village Vedaguru) to Karnataka passing through Bandipur forest to get to the imperial city of Mysoore with its beautiful palaces and temples.

From Mysoore Madumalai through the forest to get to Ooty in Tamil Nadu, this small mountain town is a favourite summer destination of the British. From Ooty you proceed to Madurai, where you will find the Palace of Tirumala Nayaka, built in Indo-Mughal style in 1636 and the Temple of Minakshi. Continue the tour to Kanyakumari: The name comes from the name of its patron the goddess Kanya Kumari, who the famous temple is dedicated to. Being located at the furthest point of the subcontinent has the special characteristic of being surrounded by three seas: the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal. Leaving this fascinating place we head towards Trivandrum, the capital and largest city of Kerala; The wonderful Padmanabha Swamy Temple and the fort surrounding it, the Palayam Mosque and Church are among the most important historic buildings. We leave the city to reach Varkala, a nice village on the coast. Rest and visit The Temple of Janardhanaswamy, a sanctuary two thousand years old. Proceeding in a northerly direction along the coast of Kerala you stop at Alleppey, one of the major tourist centres of Kerala, based on boat trips to the ‘backwaters’. Continuing to Cochin and the charming old part of Fort Cochin colonized by the Portuguese where you can see the Dutch Palace, the Cathedral of Santa Cruz, the church of St. Francis and the Paradesi Synagogue. Only here you can see the impressive huge Chinese networks, each of these large teak frames is controlled by a complex system of weights and pulleys – an ancient method of fishing. We then arrive at Guruvayoor where you can visit the famous temple. The following day we will reach the picturesque Malappuram and finally return to Wayanad in the Vedaguru Centre.

The full tour includes trips covering about 1300 kilometres of India that are not just walks! The centre will help you in all the organization – we will rent a vehicle with driver. Obviously, the tour is customizable depending on the time you have available and personal interests. You can also organize different routes, visiting several famous ashrams such as Amma in Kerala, or Auroville in Tamil Nadu, the world’s largest community founded on the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and Mirra Alfassa.
The prices are very competitive for the guided vehicle because we book directly with a local agency and you can choose your accommodation depending on your budget from super budget guesthouses to 5-star resorts.
